![]() ![]() SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE doesn’t purport to be “factual,” although there are elements taken from reality such as the look of the two theaters and the theatrical staging. However, for those who had the background, it added an enjoyable new dimension as “references” to his plays abound in scenes, objects, and dialogue. ![]() Two decades earlier, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE did something similar with the plays of William Shakespeare and, in particular, “Romeo and Juliet.” Similarly, it wasn’t necessary to know the works in order to follow and enjoy the story. ![]() ![]() It wasn’t necessary to be familiar with Dickens’ works to enjoy the tale, but those “in the know” had additional levels of enjoyment as familiar characters were brought together into a new story. DICKENSIAN, the multi-episode limited television series, took Viewers into an “alternate reality” featuring many of Charles Dickens’ most beloved (and notorious) characters.
